Some of us have issues with thinning hair.

It’s one of the reasons Wildland Botanicals began making shampoos & skincare products in the first place. Everyone wants something that makes scalp & hair happy. We all want the hair we had when in high school, right? And we know that the things we do to our hair is in part responsible for thinning hair. Things like coloring, heat styling, excessive brushing, pomade, products and especially commercial shampoos. Sulfates!!! Silicones! Parabens! Harsh chemicals! Ugh. Then, there’s genetics. Both men and women have a real tendency for thinning hair as they get older, and in some people this can start at an early age. Male pattern baldness is real and pharmaceuticals can be a little scary.

The culprit: DHT

A sex hormone known as dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is the primary reason for hair loss.  DHT has been linked to hair loss in both men & women and is widely considered the reason for genetically-related hair loss. On a physical level what occurs is that DHT causes miniaturization of the actual hair follicles, in essence making them smaller and less effective. DHT is an androgen hormone, which means adding a topical anti-androgen to your regimen is so important. Furthermore, DHT is thought to be more powerful than testosterone, specifically in that it attaches to the follicles just like testosterone, for example, but it attaches more easily.  And the scary thing is that once there, it remains attached to the follicle for longer.  All the time taking its toll on your hair follicles.

The solution: Topical DHT Blockers

Here at Wildland, we get this request A LOT: ‘I want something with more DHT blockers in it. I want something that has those good for your hair oils that make it grow faster, like Jamaican castor oil, like pumpkinseed oil, like grapeseed oil’. We get asked all the time for advice on what to put in it and what kind of oils to use. There are so many!  It’s a pretty daunting exercise to put something like this together, i.e. what percentages to use, how much is too much, etc. I mean most people don’t have all those oils laying around and to get them all can be expensive!! Do you have Emu oil from Australia? We do. What about Neem Oil? Yup. Don’t even start about the herbs!! Ekclonia cava is only found on the coast of Japan and Korea! And getting decent, organic Saw Palmetto isn’t easy either. And don't forget Chinese Dodder! Look it up along with hair loss and you’ll see why it had to be in there as well. Rosemary oil is a 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor which helps stop testosterone from converting into DHT, so it's got to be in there too.  The list goes on and on. It’s all here in the same bottle.
